First Super has appointed regional businesswoman Robyn Burns to its board, effective from 1 July 2019.
Ms Burns has had a long and successful career as a senior executive at Borg Manufacturing. An accountant by trade, she has overseen the expansion of Borg as it has developed into one of the principal employers on the NSW Central Coast and a major national building products manufacturer.
First Super CEO Bill Watson said that Ms Burns’ leadership skills and commercial experience would be highly valuable for the fund.
“Robyn has been centrally involved in creating a thriving business that employs many hundreds of Australians. We look forward to her strong contribution at a trustee director level with First Super and welcome the further renewal of our board.”
Mr Watson also announced that board veteran Allan Stewart would be standing down from his position on 30 June 2019.
Mr Stewart has made a highly significant contribution to First Super over three decades. He was on the board of forerunner fund TISS from 1992 to 2008, and then served a further 11 years on First Super’s board, including an extensive period as Co-Chair.
“Allan’s contribution to the good governance of First Super has contributed considerably to the excellent returns and benefits members enjoy,” Mr Watson said.
“We wish Allan well on his retirement from the First Super board and thank him for his stewardship of our fund over an extended period of time. We know that Allan will continue to make a contribution to the timber industry through his presidency of the Timber Trade Industrial Association, and additionally to sport in Canberra though his presidency of the Federal Golf Club.”
As an Industry Super Fund, First Super is governed by a board with an equal number of employer and employee representatives, as well as independent directors.
