Getting active and staying online webinars

Spotting online scams and connecting to others are the upcoming topics in the “Be connected” webinars that will run next week.

Provided the Australian Government’s eSafety Commissioner, the free online workshops aim to help older people improve their computer skills and stay safe online.

Australians aged over 55 lost more than $50 million to scammers in 2019. The “Can you spot a scam?” webinar explores how it pays to be savvy when you’re involved in shopping, banking or communicating online. It covers:

• Common scams including, the latest tax and Medicare scams
• Tips on how to spot them
• What to do and what not to do
• Where to go for help.

This session runs on Monday 13 July from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

The “Connecting to others” webinar has been designed specifically to help older Australians stay in touch and avoid social isolation during the current restrictions. This will explain:

• How to set up for video calling
• How to use Skype
• How to use WhatsApp
• How to use FaceTime.

This one-hour session will be held on Tuesday 14 July at 3.00pm.
