Retirement Health Check: “I should have reached out earlier”

February 7th, 2025

Recently member Jenny told us about her experience of having a Retirement Health Check with one of our Financial Advisers.1 Advice about your First Super account comes at no additional cost to members.

This is what Jenny had to say.

1. What was your perception of contacting Financial Advisers?

I was looking for guidance and advice about my super balance as I didn’t know enough about government rules, tax and in general the overall what to do to get the most from my super, and I didn’t want to use a financial adviser for the reason of having no trust in them.

2. How did you feel about your finances/retirement before contacting First Super?

I felt uncertain “I didn’t know what I didn’t know”.

3. What did you learn from the Retirement Health Check?

I learnt that I should have reached out earlier not just before. I had questions like “can I afford to retire and if so, how do I live and what can I do to capitalise on my super?” Thankfully, Andrew outlined my options very clearly and has given me a couple of roadmaps to consider, he is exceptional.

4. What would you say to others who are considering a Retirement Health Check?

DO NOT leave a Retirement Health Check too late… Start the conversation as early as possible, plan to succeed.
