How your spending changes in retirement

The big question our retirees ask us is: will I have enough money to last my retirement?

Your spending habits change in retirement and the old saying of “you need $1 million to retire” is simply untrue and irrelevant for most Australians.

Join our team of retirement experts and our special guest presenter, Misha Schubert from Super Members Council (SMC), as we discuss what First Super’s members and retired Australians can actually expect to spend in their retirement.

Event details

  • Date: Wednesday 23 October 2024
  • Time: 6pm AEST
  • Location: Webinar
  • Duration: 45 minutes

By registering, even if unable to attend on the day, we can send you a recording of the webinar afterwards.

Find out:

  • how Australians’ spending actually changes in retirement
  • what the reasons are behind why retirees are changing their spending habits
  • when the best time to retire actually is
  • what you need to budget for in retirement
  • how you can use your superannuation and the Age Pension to maximise your weekly income.

This webinar is free to attend for members and non-members, and a recording of the webinar will be made available afterwards to all registrants.

Here’s what our members have said about our previous retirement events

Andrew Jewell - First Super Executive Manager, Financial Advice and Education Andrew Jewell
Executive Manager,
Financial Advice and Education

More about Andrew

Building on a successful career in the finance sector, Andrew followed his passion for meeting people by moving into financial advice. Andrew is driven by wanting to help people, especially when it comes to finances.

Andrew enjoys taking complex subjects like superannuation and breaking them down into bite-sized, relatable examples for members. He says, “Nothing beats the satisfaction of watching a member understand a financial concept or strategy, and making a difference to their life, it’s extremely rewarding”.

Andrew enjoys the flexibility of super and the way it can be adapted to meet member needs. He likes to guide his members through each of life’s stages showing them how their super and financial management needs can be adapted as their circumstances change; from the first stages of their working career, expanding their family, the empty-nest stage and of course, arguably the best part, retirement.

He is a firm believer that you don’t need to have a large retirement balance to seek advice. Financial advice can change the lives of members with even the smallest balances. The key to a successful partnership with clients is to listen. He believes it’s an honour to have members share their lives with you, and it’s important to share something with them too.

In his downtime Andrew enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to gigs, jamming with his bass guitar and playing football (soccer). In fact, Andrew started a successful soccer club in a small ‘league and rugby-only’ town in regional NSW. In the first summer, the club had over 400 children register to play.

The club grew exponentially to accommodate many children, teen and adult teams who competed in NSW and ACT. To honour his contribution to his community, Andrew was presented with an Australia Day Community Award, by the lead singer of Ice House, Iva Davies!
