Transfer your insurance

Do you have existing insurance cover with a different super fund or insurance policy?

You may be able to transfer insurance cover up to the value of $1.5 million to First Super without providing medical evidence. (This is subject to conditions.) This means you can join us – or keep your account with us open – without sacrificing your existing insurance cover arrangements.

You can apply to transfer cover at any time during your membership.

First Super’s insurer will assess your application. You’ll need to provide evidence of your other current cover. If your transfer is accepted, it will be added to any cover you already have with us.

What types of cover can be transferred?

You can apply to transfer:

  • Death (life insurance)
  • TPD
  • Income Protection

If you are transferring Income Protection cover, you should know it may not be possible for us to exactly match the transferred cover. This is because the terms and conditions of Income Protection cover can vary.

For example, we offer members 30-, 60- and 90-day waiting periods – your other provider may offer 45- or 120-day periods.

We will match the cover as closely as we can, and advise you of any special terms, conditions and exclusions that are applied to your cover before it starts.

The benefits of transferring cover

Here are some of the reasons you may want to consider transferring existing insurance cover to First Super, rather than applying for new cover.

  • You do not have to make new applications for insurance.
  • You already have an insurance arrangement that you know meets your needs, but you want your super and insurance in the one place.
  • If you had to provide medical information as part of your application for your existing cover, you do not need to do this again to transfer cover (unless it is requested as additional information by our insurer).
